General questions to help you understand NAIC Partnership and steps for obtaining certification.
What are my state's requirements?
The NAIC developed producer training standards as a template, which many states are adopting without change. Other states are choosing to implement state-specific Partnership requirements. Learn more about your state's specific requirements.
Why do I need to be certified if I'm already a licensed producer? There is a difference between being licensed and being certified. Your state issues all producers a specific type of license enabling you to sell insurance. In addition, the new NAIC/Partnership legislation requires you to be LTC trained and certified.
What does training reciprocity mean and how does it impact me if I write business in more than one state? As a rule of thumb, training reciprocity means NAIC training taken in one state satisfies the NAIC training requirement in another state. However, if a state requires state-specific law be covered in addition to the NAIC training, producers need to complete such training in addition to the NAIC training. Scenario: State A is an 8-hour NAIC state with no state-specific law content. State B is an 8-hour course, but 2 of those 8 hours cover state-specific law. Example 1: You satisfied the requirement in State A and now want to write business in State B. You need to take the 2-hour state-specific class for State B. Example 2: You satisfied the requirement in State B and now want to write business in State A. No additional training requirement needed.
